*Título:* Bayesian modeling of underreported count data: a discussion of
some methods and their applications

*Resumo:* Count data is collected in many fields such as criminology,
demography and epidemiology to assess or monitor the associated risks. In
Brazil, this type of data usually comes from official registration systems
which are prone to under-registration: only a fraction of the true (but
unobserved) counts is reported. In this talk, some statistical approaches
for correcting underreporting in count data will be discussed. The methods
are based on a Poisson regression model for the observed data along with
the specification of an auxiliary framework for modeling the reporting
process. Inference is made under the Bayesian framework, depending on the
sort of prior information available. Applications consider Brazilian data
on infant mortality, syphilis and tuberculosis, in which underreporting
bias correction is very important for accurate government surveillance,
intervention and control.
