temos o prazer de anunciar a palestra da *Rafael Izbicki* , *no** dia **31**
de **maio** de 202**3**, às 19h00*, com o título "*Rethinking Hypothesis

*R**esumo:* Null Hypothesis Significance Tests (NHST) have been a popular
statistical tool across various scientific disciplines since the 1920s.
However, the exclusive reliance on a p-value threshold of 0.05 has recently
come under criticism; in particular it is argued to have contributed
significantly to the reproducibility crisis. In this talk, we revisit some
of the main issues associated with NHST and propose an alternative approach
that is both easy to implement and can address many of these concerns. Our
proposed approach builds on equivalence tests and three-way decision
procedures, which offer several advantages over the traditional NHST. We
demonstrate the efficacy of our approach on real-world examples and show
that it has many desirable properties

*Breve biografia:* Bacharel e Mestre em Estatística pela Universidade de
São Paulo, PhD em Estatística pela Carnegie Mellon University (2014).
Atualmente é Professor Adjunto da UFSCar- Universidade Federal de São
Carlos. Bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq - Nível 2, tem
experiência na área de Probabilidade e Estatística, com ênfase em Machine
Learning (aprendizado de máquina), Bioestatística, Astroestatística,
Fundamentos da Estatística, Inferência Bayesiana, Inferência Não
Paramétrica e Inferência em Dados com Alta Dimensionalidade. Mais
