Adriana Bruscato</a> estava praticamente aprovada para trabalhar em um banco — realizando o sonho que tinha desde a adolescência, quando dava aulas particulares de matemática e imaginava usar os números no sistema financeiro. No entanto, quando foi convidada
por um professor para conhecer o então Ibmec São Paulo, hoje Insper, bastou entrar em uma sala de aula para que mudasse de ideia. Adriana recusou a vaga no banco e escolheu começar como professora auxiliar, iniciando uma trajetória que ela mesma define como
“bastante aleatória, nada linear” — um conceito, aliás, familiar para quem estuda Estatística.</p>

<p style="line-height:150%">Formada pela USP, com mestrado e doutorado na mesma universidade, Adriana descobriu a Estatística quase por acaso durante a graduação. “Era tudo o que eu queria: usar a matemática para resolver problemas reais”, relembra sobre as
primeiras aulas da disciplina que definiram sua carreira. Essa descoberta começou a se desenhar alguns meses antes, aos 17 anos, quando resolveu visitar sozinha o campus da Universidade de São Paulo. Entrou no prédio da Faculdade de Economia e Administração
(FEA) e encontrou casualmente duas professoras, que a fizeram perceber que havia espaço para mulheres naquele universo tradicionalmente masculino.</p>

<p style="line-height:150%">Desde então, cada escolha acadêmica e profissional consolidou esse caminho. Em 1999, começou a trabalhar no Insper como professora auxiliar. Ao longo de 26 anos na escola, desenvolveu expertise na aplicação de métodos quantitativos
para estudo de problemas brasileiros. Em 2024, tornou-se professora titular no Insper — a primeira mulher a alcançar o ponto mais alto na carreira acadêmica depois de seguir todo o percurso profissional dentro da própria escola.</p>

de Gestão e Políticas Públicas</a> (CGPP) do Insper, nasceu de uma ideia amadurecida desde o início da década de 2010. O estatístico Hedibert Freitas Lopes, coordenador acadêmico do núcleo, chegou à escola em 2013, depois de 10 anos como professor da escola
de negócios Chicago Booth, da Universidade de Chicago, para se juntar aos elaboradores do doutorado em Economia de Negócios. Logo percebeu que havia uma lacuna em relação ao campo da ciência de dados, uma revolução metodológica que já estava acontecendo nos
Estados Unidos. Três anos depois, o grupo de pesquisa foi formalizado no Centro de Estudos em Negócios (Ceneg) do Insper.</p>

<p style="line-height:150%">A missão do núcleo é contribuir no avanço da pesquisa teórica e prática de métodos estatísticos vinculados a temas da Administração, da Computação, do Direito, da Economia e das Engenharias. No processo de reorganização dos centros
de conhecimento do Insper, finalizado em 2024, o núcleo foi realocado no CGPP, em parte pelo interesse da equipe no estudo da causalidade em políticas públicas. Mesmo assim, manteve a transversalidade ao continuar contribuindo com os demais centros de conhecimento.</p>
