> We are seeking outstanding candidates to undertake a PhD in the School of Economics at the UNSW Business School. Successful candidates will join a team of econometricians, statisticians and economists working on a research program focused on developing flexible econometric methods for use with panel data and involving latent variables. The successful candidates will work on methodological developments driven by current research questions arising in health economics.
>
> Recent years have witnessed substantial advances in Australia’s data infrastructure. The linkage of Australia’s administrative claims data, registries, hospitalisations and emergency department presentations, combined with survey questions on health status, behaviours, socio-economic and demographic data offers new opportunities to evaluate policy impact on the performance of Australia’s health system. While providing new opportunities to answer substantive questions around equitable provision of health services, substitution between primary and specialist care and the role of emergency departments in the provision of services, these new data also introduce challenges associated with the appropriate use of big data.
>
> It is necessary for the applicant to have a very strong background in econometrics/statistics, statistical computing and micro-economics. Training in health economics is not necessary but an interest in current health issues is highly desirable.
>
> The research will be led by Professor Denzil Fiebig, A/Professor Scott Sisson and Professor Robert Kohn
>
