*Call for Short Course Proposals - 2017 ISI World Statistics Congress,
Marrakech, Morocco  *



The Short Course Committee for the 2017 World Statistics Congress (SCC-2017)
in Marrakech, Morocco has been appointed. Byeong U. Park chairs the
Committee, and the full list of members is given below. The SCC-2017 has
been asked to develop a short course programme to serve the diverse needs
of participants at the WSC.



The SCC-2017 is inviting the members of the ISI and its Associations to
submit proposals for short courses. The ISI views the short course
programme as an important part of its statistical capacity building
activities. Therefore, courses aimed at the development of statistical
capacity of participants, including young statisticians and those in the
local region, are especially welcome. The proposals received from members
and other sources will be reviewed by the SCC-2017, which will develop the
short course programme for WSC 2017 and submit it to the Executive Committee
of the ISI for approval.



Here is some information about the short course programme:



   - Courses should be 1 to 2 days in length and will be offered in
   Marrakech from 13-15 July 2017, immediately before the WSC 2017
   meetings.
   - Topics may be drawn from any area of statistics represented in the ISI
   and its Associations. Courses that are aimed at the needs of the
   participants in the local region and young statisticians will be given
   preference.
   - Short courses will be offered with the support of the High Commission
   for Planning (HCP), the Moroccan agency that is hosting the WSC. The
   venue for the short courses will be in Marrakech.
   - The fees for the short courses are set at reasonably low levels just
   to recover the costs, and substantial discount is given to students and
   participants from the host and developing countries.
   - Up to two instructors per course will be reimbursed for local expenses
   (WSC registration and per diem at the UN rate) for the period that they are
   teaching the short courses. Travel expenses to the WSC in Marrakech will
   not be covered as it is expected that the instructors are already planning
   to attend the WSC. It is hoped that instructors will view this as a service
   to the international statistical community.
