É com orgulho e prazer que divulgo a notícia da eleição da Profa. Denise 
Britz do Nascimento Silva, da ENCE/IBGE, para a presidência da IASS - 
International Association for Survey Statisticians, a primeira das 
associações do ISI, fundada em 1973. Denise exercerá primeiro um mandato 
de Presidente-eleita, entre 2017-2019, e presidirá a associação entre 
2019-2021. Denise serve atualmente como Secretária Científica na atual 
gestão, presidida por Steve Heeringa, Universidade de Michigan.

Mais detalhes sobre os resultados da eleição estão disponíveis na mensagem 
abaixo, que circulou hoje junto aos membros do ISI e da IASS.

Ms. Ada van Krimpen, IASS Executive Director, has provided me the Report 
of the 2017 IASS Officers' Elections.  
 
Here is an excerpt from the report that summarizes the voting process and 
the results:
 
Report on the 2017 IASS Officers’ Elections,  6 April 2017
The 2017 IASS Officers’ Elections were organized in order to choose the 
President-Elect for 2017-2019 and four Vice-Presidents 2017-2019. Their 
term of office will start after the WSC 2017 in Marrakech.
The Election was open to all IASS members.
 
On 13 February 2017 an electronic ballot form was sent to all 417 members. 
From these, 5 ballots bounced due to various reasons - such as ‘full 
e-mailbox’ or ‘invalid e-mail address’. A reminder was sent to all members 
on 23 March 2017.
 
On the closing date, 29 March 2017, a total of 190 electronic votes was 
received. This means that 45.6 % of the 417 members cast their votes.
 
The votes were counted by Gerrit J. Stemerdink, an ISI Elected Member who 
works as a volunteer at the ISI Permanent Office. They were checked by 
Jelke Bethlehem, Professor Emeritus of Statistical Methodology and 
long-time ISI Elected Member. The results are as follows:
 
Denise do Nascimento Silva is elected as President-Elect
 
Cynthia Clark
Anders Holmberg
Risto Lehtonen
Jean Opsomer
are elected as Vice-Presidents.
 
Along with President-Elect, Peter Lynn, and IASS Executive Director, Ada 
van Krimpen (ex-officio) these newly elected officers will form the IASS 
Executive for 2017-2019. As President-Elect, Peter will designate one of 
the elected VPs as the Scientific Secretary of the IASS for 2017-2019 and 
another VP to have the duties of Financial Officer for this same period.  
 
I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the candidates who were 
elected to office but also extend my thanks to all of the candidates who 
agreed to stand for election and to serve if chosen for office.
