[ABE-L] Falecimento de David Draper, Professor da UC Santa Cruz

Recebi a noticia com muita tristeza. David era uma personalidade unica com
muita relevância no mundo da Estatística Bayesiana.

Conheci ele há 3 décadas quando ele convidou um então jovem e desconhecido
pesquisador para uma palestra em Bath em 1994.
Desde então mantivemos contato em congressos pelo mundo sendo um deles foi
no Brasil e tive a oportunidade de convida-lo para um
passeio a Teresópolis. Alguns anos depois ele retribuiu o convite com um
jantar na sua casa em Santa Cruz, CA durante uma visita à UCSC.
Ele foi o mentor do depto de Estatística da UCSC e foi muito bem sucedido
na tarefa. Trata-se hoje de um grupo de excelente nível acadêmico
e muito prestigio na comunidade Bayesiana, já tendo inclusive recebido a
visita de vários brasileiros.

Como o obituario da UCSC aponta, era uma pessoa de humor bem peculiar e
sempre em uma busca incansável por novidades.

Fará muita falta por aqui...
