[ABE-L] Falecimento do grande estatístico George Tiao

Bom dia a todos,

É com muito pesar que divido na nossa lista o falecimento aos 92 anos de
idade de um dos estatísticos mais relevantes do século 20, George Tiao.
George era "W. Allen Wallis Prof. Emeritus, Econometrics and Statistics" da
University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

George foi membro da  Royal Statistical Society, da American Statistical
Association e do International Statistical Institute, além do Institute of
Mathematical Statistica, da Chinese Statistical Association, e da Taipei
International Chinese Statistical Association

Na página da Chicago Booth aparece o seguinte texto:  Member of the faculty
since 1982. A.B. (economics), National Taiwan University, 1955; MBA
(banking and finance), New York University, 1958; PhD (economics),
University of Wisconsin, Madison, 1962.  Research in Bayesian inference;
econometric methods; time series methods and applications; modeling and
analysis of air pollution and stratospheric ozone data.

Tive o privilégio de conviver com ele e Arnold Zellner por alguns anos
durante meus anos na UC.  Os livros do Zellner e do Box and Tiao da
biblioteca do IM da UFRJ estavam sempre comigo durante o meu mestrado nos
idos 1991-1993.   Uma curiosidade é que George Box foi orientador do George
Tiao, que por sua vez foi orientador do Ruey Tsay, uma linhagem fenomenal
de estatísticos.  Em dezembro de 2013, tive outro privilégio ao participar
da celebração dos 80 anos de George no evento "Frontiers of Statistics and
Forecasting in Celebration of the 80th Birthday of George C. Tiao", que foi
realizado na Academia Sinica em Taipei, Taiwan.  Veja o programa em
