[ABE-L] How can mathematics contribute to AI? (Symposium)

*How can mathematics contribute to AI?*
The INCT-NUMEC is happy to announce a three-day symposium meant to explore
the role of mathematics in the development of artificial intelligence, on
August 10–12, 2026, to be held in the Antonio Galves building at IME-USP. The
event will feature lectures and discussions, bringing together
mathematicians, statisticians and AI researchers to examine the
mathematical foundations beneath the recent successes of artificial
intelligence and machine learning.
Among the confirmed speakers are:
- Prof. Paola Bermolen, Universidad de la República (Montevideo,
Uruguay);
- Prof. Joaquín Fontbona, Universidad de Chile (Santiago, Chile);
- Prof. Rafael Izbicki, UFSCar (São Carlos, Brazil);
- Prof. Paulo Orenstein, IMPA (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil);
- Prof. Tiago Ramos, UFSCar (São Carlos, Brazil);
- Prof. Mauricio Velasco, Universidad de la República (Montevideo,
Uruguay).
The precise subjects of the talks and the program will be communicated

Registration for the symposium is free of charge and can be done through
the dedicated form on the website above. Some financial resources are
available for participants from outside the city of São Paulo. To request
