So what’s new about ‘Big Data’? What’s happening in research, applications, education, funding, and the development of infrastructure to support Big Data initiatives? Are statisticians playing a key role in the big data revolution? What is Data Science and how is it different from Statistics? How can Statistics become even more central to Data Science? The presentation will discuss a number of these topics from one person’s perspective. </li><li>Palestrante: Vijay Nair is Donald A. Darling professor of Statistics and professor of Industrial & Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan. He was Chair of the Department of Statistics from 1998 to 2010. He is currently President of the International Statistical Institute.
