Em termos gerais, a AFE é uma técnica estatística multivariada que aborda o problema de analisar a estrutura das inter-relações (correlações) entre um grande número de variáveis (por exemplo, escores de testes, itens de testes, respostas de questionários) agrupando-as em fatores. Durante sua execução, diversas decisões precisam ser tomadas a fim de se obter uma estrutura fatorial adequada. Atualmente é Professor Adjunto concursado da Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso, vinculado ao departamento de Estatística.
