Bayesian Biostatistics
Emmanuel Lesaffre
L-Biostat, KU Leuven, Leuven, Belgium
Abstract
Bayesian methods have seen an explosion in developments and applications in the last decade. This course gives the necessary background to understand the Bayesian approach. A great variety of examples illustrate the Bayesian methods, such as: diagnostic tests, meta-analyses, longitudinal studies, disease maps, etc. Practical exercises are based on WinBUGS, OpenBUGS, JAGS and their R-interfaces 2WinBUGS, R2jags, etc.
Learning outcomes
·          Understanding applications of the Bayesian approach in the medical literature
·          Working with WinBUGS, OpenBUGS and R2WinBUGS, R2jags, etc. for performing Bayesian analyses
·          Understand the difference (advantages and disadvantages) of the Bayesian versus the frequentist approach
·          Extending the complexity of your analyses above what can be done with the frequentist approach
Who should attend?
(Bio)-statisticians, but also epidemiologists and researchers in biomedical, veterinary, epidemiology, pharmacology sciences etc with a good statistical background.
