Dear all

I'd be very grateful if you could bring this job opportunity for a
postdoctoral research fellow to the attention of potential candidates in
your network. Many thanks in advance!
Andrea

Research fellow in computational statistics for livestock health and
production at the Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh, UK
We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher with experience in
statistical inference and computational modelling to join the group led by
Dr Andrea Doeschl-Wilson at the Genetics and Genomics Division of The
Roslin Institute and the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies,
University of Edinburgh. Your main role will be to develop and apply
statistical inference methods and experimental designs to determine the
role of host genetics and non-genetic factors on the spread and impact of
infectious disease in livestock. You will also have the opportunity to
contribute to other research projects carried out within the Wilson group
and The Roslin Institute, and assist with teaching.
You should have a PhD, or near completion of a PhD, in a discipline with a
substantial quantitative component (e.g. mathematics, statistics,
quantitative genetics, theoretical biology or physics), together with
evidence of expertise in computational modelling and statistical inference.
Essential requirements:
* Excellent programming skills and experience in writing
computational code for analysing or modelling disease or other dynamic
processes.
* Experience in Bayesian statistics, Markov Chain Monte Carlo or
other statistical inference techniques.
* Experience or a strong interest in quantitative genetics and
genomics.
* A track record of research outputs, publications in peer reviewed
scientific journals and presentations at scientific conferences.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The ideal candidate for this post will further have:
* Experience in analysis and modelling of genomic or epidemiological
data.
* An understanding of plant or livestock production and breeding
* A strong interest in multi-disciplinary research and in acquiring
new skills.
* Experience in collaboration with scientists from other disciplines.

This post is available immediately from a mutually agreed start date until
31st December 2019, with potential for extension.
Application deadline: 27.4.2018. Interviews are expected to take place,
week commencing 7th May, 2018.
Informal enquiries are encouraged and may be addressed to Dr Andrea
Doeschl-Wilson (andrea.wilson em roslin.ed.ac.uk or phone +44 131 6519224
<+44%20131%20651%209224>), in confidence to discuss the post.
