*Abstract:* The course will be divided into two parts. The first two
lectures will be a statistical introduction to partial least squares, where
we will study the algebra and the statistics behind the method. We will
also present the newer asymptotic results when the sample size and the
number of predictors diverge. The two last lectures will address the
algebra, the model, and the optimization behind neural networks. We will
present the mathematics behind a simple neural network to be able to
implement it in Phyton. One goal is to demystify this model's black box
status.
