*IASE Satellite Conference, 22-24 July 2015, Rio de Janeiro*

The International Association for Statistical Education (IASE) is pleased to 
announce its
9th Satellite Conference, *July 22-24, 2015* in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, just 
before the
60th World Statistics Congress (WSC60; July 26-31, elsewhere in Rio). The 
Satellite
Conference will take place on the beautiful campus of the Universidade 
Federal do Estado
do Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) in the old Bairro da Urca area section of Rio.

The 2015 Satellite is organized around the broad theme: *"Advances in 
Statistics
Education: developments, experiences, and assessments"*. The International 
Program
Committee is calling for contributions of papers and posters that fit with 
the theme
listed above, and/or that address the following sub-topics:
    Topic 1. Motivating teachers and students,
    Topic 2: Big data, official statistics, and statistics education,
    Topic 3: Advancing Statistical education using technology and mobile 
devices,
    Topic 4: Statistics education in the age of social networking & distance 
education.

A contribution will require a *300-word [structured] abstract*, to be 
submitted by *Jan
10, 2015* via the conference website. Authors will be notified by Feb 1, 
2015 about
acceptance. An option for refereed submissions will be available. Please see 
Guidelines
for Authors under the "Notices" menu on the conference website.

The conference is co-organized by IASE and UNIRO, and sponsored by ENCE 
(National School
of Statistics at IBGE, Brazilian Inst. for Geography and Statistics), SAS, 
ABE (Brazilian
Statistical Association), and IAOS (Int'l Association for Official 
Statistics). We expect
a warm, informal meeting, with a mix of plenary talks, paper sessions and 
interactive
poster sessions, and a social program. In addition, while the working 
language of the
conference is English, there will be hands-on pre-conference workshops in 
Portuguese,
Spanish and English as part of Day 1 of the conference.

The Satellite will run from noon of July 22 to afternoon of July 24, 2015 
(with
pre-conference workshops on morning of July 22). This enables those 
attending the WSC60 an
easy move and sufficient time to explore Rio, before the opening ceremony of 
WSC60 on
evening of July 26.
