We are currently looking for a Research Assistant to join the project "A
novel framework for semi-automatic news classification" at EMAp/FGV, Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil. Remote work will be considered.

*The candidate*
The ideal candidate has excellent programming skills in R (including
Markdown and Shiny) and experience with Particle Markov Chain Monte Carlo
methods [2] and/or Natural Language Processing.

*The project*
A novel framework for semi-automatic news classification

The seminal paper by Baker, Bloom and Davis [1] introduced a measure of
economic policy uncertainty (the EPU index) based on news articles,
classifying articles in uncertainty or not based on a pre-specified set of
words ("economic", "economy", "uncertainty", etc). The aim of this project
is to construct supervised learning algorithms for text classification,
with particular focus on the EPU. We are currently developing dynamically
sparse models, where at any point in time only a small subset of the
available features are included in the model.
