Dear colleague,

I am writing on behalf of a group of scientists from around the world
who have grown increasingly disturbed about the worsening humanitarian
situation in Gaza. We decided we had to do something, no matter how small.

We have formulated a letter as scientists transcending borders, who
would like to see an immediate end to this terrible situation. We
therefore address our appeal not only to the Israeli government and
Hamas but also all other governments and international bodies. The
letter expresses our deep distress at the humanitarian situation in
Gaza. It calls on governments and others to exert all available means to
halt this tragedy. If you are a scientist* please consider reading and
signing our petition, and forwarding this email to several other
scientists of your acquaintance. However, we feel that at this stage it
would be best not to post the petition on social media (or publish it
elsewhere), as it could invite (perhaps deliberately targeted) false
signatures.

The petition will continue to accept signatures at least up to the 25th of
